"Yugra Word Wizards" linguistic translation project

Master classes cover a wide range of topics: professional oral and written translation, audiovisual translation, intercultural communication, preparation for international events, team building, public speaking, and more.

These events aim to develop professional competencies such as linguistic, translation, intercultural, and linguocultural competencies, as well as competencies like systemic and critical thinking, project management skills, marketing skills, and public speaking skills.

Each master class includes theoretical and practical material based on the principle of «20% theory, 80% practice.»

The YWW film clubs include watching movies in English with original subtitles, discussions in English, exchanging opinions, taking quizzes based on the film content, and working with vocabulary. The film clubs are held in a special classroom designed to create an intimate and cozy atmosphere conducive to enjoyable leisure time and communication.

It is worth noting that before watching the film, each participant receives an assignment—to memorize and write in the community chat at least one new word or expression they encounter in the film. After the screening, participants share the words and expressions, attempt to explain and translate them.

The structure of the YWW conversation club begins with a warm-up, such as a brief introduction or an icebreaker game, to help participants feel comfortable. This is followed by the main discussion segment, during which a predetermined topic is introduced, and participants share their thoughts, experiences, and opinions in a free-flowing manner. The discussion is accompanied by a prepared presentation containing the most important words and phrases related to the topic being discussed.

Complex and controversial questions often provoke lively discussions, debates, and arguments, where participants defend their viewpoints, present arguments and logical reasoning, which contributes to the development of discursive competence, critical thinking, and stress resilience.

A chat for communicating in English, where participants engage in written discussions on interesting topics, discuss current news, help each other, and share their impressions of university life (see Fig. 2.5). This allows students to practice their conversational written English skills and immerse themselves in a foreign language environment.

The chat format also implies an informal style of communication that includes slang, colloquial expressions, abbreviations, and interjections, facilitating the mastery of this level of communication, which is also important for the development of a well-rounded linguistic personality.

The quiz questions are based on the content of published materials in the VKontakte group. Therefore, to achieve a high score in the quiz, participants must thoroughly study the material in the published posts. This platform allows for quizzes to be conducted in various interactive formats, which helps maintain interest in participation.
